[...]The Trustees said in a joint statement, ‘it has taken a lot of work, commitment and some resilience to get to this point however we are delighted and excited to be able to once again deliver valuable and meaningful community service in the heart of Sandwich South. We particularly wish to recognise the trustees of the Phoenix Centre for all their work and acknowledge the efforts of Jubilee Centre Trustees Clare Felton, Philip Woodhouse and particularly Nicholas Gray for negotiating and securing a lease that gives us a real chance to succeed’.
‘The renaming of the Centre as the Jubilee Centre is because the charity responsible for it was constituted in the year of Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee year. She was the embodiment of service and by serving our community we wish to play our own small part in honouring her legacy and securing the legacy of those who came before us in Sandwich’.
‘We will shortly be bringing more groups back to the Centre and are very much open for business. If you wish to help us or use the centre please email
David Wood (dmawood@me.com)
or Mal Channing (malcolm.channing@sandwichcommunityhub.com)
or go to: www.sandwichcommunityhub.com
We are very keen to hear from people who maybe able to help us with financial and administrative skills. Plans for the future include a community garden and allotment and we are particularly looking for people who can help with this.
We wish to convey our thanks to the community officers of DDC, the District Councillors who supported us and all those people in the community who have been behind us’.
The Trustees of the charity are: David Wood, Jeanette Timmins, Nicholas Gray, Clare Ungerson, Clare Felton, Malcolm Channing and Philip Woodhouse.

[...]We would like thank Dick & Monica for allowing Sandwich ABC to train at Eastry youth club since September 2020. They gave the club a temporary home when we were in dire need and we are very grateful for the hospitality. Without them the club would have folded. We would also like to thank the Eastry community for accepting and supporting the club.
DDC have granted Sandwich Amateur Boxing Club, tenancy to Sandwich Community Hub: The Jubilee Centre. And as soon as The friends of the Phoenix have formed their charity, access will be granted to the wider community groups.
We are now moving back to Sandwich and would like our Eastry members to follow us to our new home Sandwich Community Hub The Jubilee Centre.
Thank you for your support.💯🤞🏽🙏🥊🥊

[...]The Phoenix Centre was also the Sandwich base of Deal Area Foodbank. It was the site of Sure Start. It was the site of local maternity and infant nursing teams delivering essential services to young mothers in Sandwich. It signposted people to critical services on a routine basis. The centre offered a safe and welcoming community space for a broad range of clubs and societies in Sandwich.
The Phoenix Centre is well equipped with two kitchens, a large hall and meeting areas alongside substantial grounds which could be used to grow food and could be made into a community garden. The centre is powered with air source heat pumps, it has solar panels, a biodiverse roof and rainwater harvesting. It is highly insulated and built from unique recycled products. It remains a flagship in the environmental standards it sets.
We must not let the Phoenix Centre shut. The centre is powered with air source heat pumps, it has solar panels, a biodiverse roof and rainwater harvesting. It is highly insulated and built from unique recycled products. It remains a flagship in the environmental standards it sets. Friends of the Phoenix Centre have stepped in and placed a community protection order on the building.
We aim to save the centre for the benefit of the local community, If we are successful the Phoenix Centre will be renamed Sandwich Community Hub. As a first step in achieving these aims we hope to relocate Sandwich Boxing Club from their current premises in Eastry to enable this distinguished and successful club to be back in the heart of our community where it belongs.
